Back pain

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek care in the UK. Most of it is what clinicians call non-specific — it comes from the muscles, joints and ligaments of the back rather than a single identifiable injury.

When people typically seek help

Usually when pain has lasted more than a week or two, keeps coming back, or is getting in the way of work, sleep or the things you normally do. GCC-registered chiropractors assess and treat back pain; whether care is appropriate for you is decided at your first appointment — and if it isn’t, a good chiropractor will say so.

See a GP first if…
  • The pain is sudden and severe, or follows a fall or accident
  • You have numbness, tingling or weakness, especially in both legs
  • You have problems controlling your bladder or bowels
  • You have unexplained weight loss, fever, or feel generally unwell alongside the pain

If any of these apply, contact your GP or NHS 111 before booking anything.
